The Most Comprehensive Semaglutide Weight Loss Program on Maui

Losing weight is hard, especially as we age and our metabolism changes. If you have tried everything from counting calories and macros to long cardio sessions and crazy fad diets, do not despair. We’ll help you correct your body chemistry to lose weight fast with our physician-led Semaglutide Weight Loss Program. Semaglutide is the newest FDA-approved weight loss drug. It is the most effective weight loss medication in history, only second in results to bariatric surgery. It is administered by weekly injection.

Semaglutide, the generic version of the branded drugs Ozempic and Wegovy, is the newest and most effective weight loss drug approved by the FDA. While there is no such thing as a magic pill (err, shot), our Semaglutide weight loss program is the closest thing to it. It promotes weight loss by increasing satiety and satiation, reducing hunger and caloric intake.

The results are even more impressive when combined with a healthy diet and exercise program. Semaglutide is a long-acting glucagon-like molecule that mimics the effects of GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide 1). Glucagon is a hormone your pancreas makes to help regulate blood glucose levels. Glucagon increases your blood sugar level and prevents it from dropping too low, whereas insulin, another hormone, decreases blood sugar levels.

Semaglutide is actually the 3rd generation of drugs developed as a medication for type 2 diabetes, garnering FDA approval in 2017. However, clinical trials and post-marketing surveys “clearly demonstrated that the drug also has the capability of helping people lose weight.” Its use skyrocketed as an off-label treatment due to the associated reports of weight loss in NIDDM patients. Subsequently, research was started to specifically study its action and safety when used primarily for weight loss.

In 2021, a study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that participants taking Semaglutide experienced dramatic weight loss leading to an average of 15% reduction in body weight. In 2022 the extension of the original study showed that participants lost an average of more than 17% of their body weight while on 2.4 mg of the medication. For a 175-pound person, for example, 17% is a loss of nearly 30 pounds. The studies also showed other benefits, such as:

  • Improved physical functioning
  • Improved lipid profiles: decreased total cholesterol, VLDL, free fatty acids, and triglycerides
  • A lowered fasting blood glucose level
  • A lowered C-reactive protein (a marker of inflammation)
  • Reduced risk of heart attack and stroke

In 2022, FDA approved Semaglutide for chronic weight management. The FDA is not calling Semaglutide a “weight-loss shot” but rather “a beneficial new treatment option” for Americans to “incorporate into a weight management program.”

The most recent study indicated Semaglutide was 5x more effective when compared to placebo.

How Does Semaglutide work?

Unlike other weight loss medications like Phentermine, Semaglutide is not a stimulant that has effects on curbing your appetite. GLP-1 medications such as Semaglutide work on key underlying metabolic pathways to support sustained weight loss by mimicking a natural hormone the body releases when a person eats food.

Semaglutide weight loss works by disguising itself in the body as an insulin-boosting peptide. It slows the rhythm of the GI tract, thus making the absorption of nutrients slower in the gut -keeping stomachs fuller for longer, as well as reacting with chemicals in the brain to induce feelings of satiety.

Semaglutide also helps control blood sugar by stimulating insulin secretion while protecting against cardiovascular problems. And, because it causes your insulin levels to be balanced, digestion is improved, and you can extract more energy from less food. In practical terms, patients taking Semaglutide have decreased appetite and feel satiated with smaller portions, which leads to weight loss.

Semaglutide is administered via weekly subcutaneous injection. After consulting with the doctor to ensure you are the right candidate, weekly administration of injections begins. The medication dose must be increased gradually over several weeks to 2.4 mg once weekly in most cases to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Your weekly visits to our practice will include weight loss check-ins to monitor your vital signs and results and administering the Semaglutide weight loss injection. This injection is tiny and virtually painless. You can also opt for our convenient at-home program.

You will have access to the doctor in cases where you experience adverse side effects or other challenges.

GLP-1 Effects on the Body

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I lose weight on Semaglutide?

If you adopt the healthy lifestyle changes we recommend at your consultation, you could see dramatic results as early as the first week. An additional one to two weeks will be needed in most cases for the medication to affect your body weight.

Does Semaglutide work immediately?

Your blood sugar levels should start to decline fully within the first week after you start using Semaglutide at your regular maintenance dose. However, the full effects can take 8 weeks or longer, as this is a long-acting medication.

Is this medication a proven weight loss treatment?

Yes. GLP-1 Semaglutide is an FDA-approved medication with demonstrable weight loss in years-long clinical studies. It is also marketed as Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda, Rybelsus, Trulicy, Victoza, and Wegovy, and generic names Contrave (Bupropion/Naltrexone) and Metformin.

Does Semaglutide get rid of belly fat?

Although we can’t spot-treat a specific area with Semaglutide, using it will improve body composition by reducing excess body fat, including abdominal fat, and increasing the proportion of lean body mass, or the amount of weight someone carries that is not body fat. In clinical studies, the more body weight a participant lost, the greater the improvement in body composition.

How much weight can I expect to lose with Semaglutide?

Clinical trials showed that among overweight or obese adults (without diabetes), once-weekly subcutaneous Semaglutide injections plus lifestyle intervention was associated with substantial, sustained, clinically relevant mean weight loss of 14.9%, with 86% of participants attaining at least 5% weight loss.

Does Semaglutide increase metabolism?

Semaglutide was associated with less hunger and food cravings, better control of eating, and a lower preference for high fat foods. Resting metabolic rate, adjusted for lean body mass, did not differ between treatments.

What happens after stopping Semaglutide?

The discontinuation of Semaglutide is typically associated with weight gain and may be associated with the reversal of cardiovascular benefits seen while on this therapy. This is why all our Semaglutide programs include detailed instructions on how to adjust your nutritional intake so that you can enjoy long-lasting weight loss after your program is completed.

What are possible Semaglutide side effects?

The side effects appear to be very rare. Only 5% of patients withdrew from the clinical studies. Most side effects occur early, during the first few days after the injection, especially when escalating the dose. Stomach side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, heartburn, burping or constipation are most common when starting treatment but decrease over time in most patients.

The most common side effect of nausea usually lessens as you continue to use Semaglutide, and we aim to minimize it further by slowly increasing your dose over the first few weeks of our program. Semaglutide stays in your system for 7-14 days after each injection. It reaches its maximum concentration in the body 1 to 3 days after a dose. If you experience side effects, they will likely be most pronounced during the first few days after each dose.

The frequency of GI side effects is increased during or following dose escalation, especially in the first 2 days of the adjustment. Since the dose escalations are predictable, making some food changes and/or having some OTC medications available to reduce these side effects is easy.

Are certain foods off-limits when taking Semaglutide?

No foods are strictly “off-limits” when taking Semaglutide—in other words, there’s nothing you need to worry about that could prevent the medication from working as indicated. However, we provide you with a special low-carb diet plan to maximize your weight loss efforts and to ensure that you will be able to successfully manage your weight after the intake of Semaglutide has ended.

Following this program is optional, but here are a few guidelines you’ll want to keep in mind in order to maximize weight loss and minimize the chance of side effects.

Highly processed foods, fried foods, fast food, and foods high in sugar tend to be the toughest for your body to digest and will most likely cause nausea and a host of other GI issues. Eating them while taking Semaglutide is highly counterproductive. Semaglutide is an excellent tool to clean up your diet and start new eating habits as you will no longer crave sugar and will be less hungry. Use this time to make a shift in your eating habits for good.

Patients taking Semaglutide who experience nausea and other GI symptoms should consider the following tips:

  1. Eat smaller meals more frequently
  2. Stop eating before feeling completely full
  3. Avoid processed and high-carb foods since they cause more nausea
  4. Eat foods that are light and bland
  5. Drink clear or ice-cold drinks (like water or unsweetened tea), and avoid carbonated drinks

Semaglutide is not only superior at reducing body weight compared with other antidiabetic drugs, but it is also cardioprotective. Another significant benefit of Semaglutide weight loss is that it can be used for long-term weight management. With the recent approval of Semaglutide, we could expect improvement in patients’ weight loss-related outcomes and quality of life.

Who cannot take Semaglutide?

You CAN NOT take Semaglutide if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Personal or family history of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC)
  • Personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia, type 2 (MEN 2)
  • Prior allergic reaction to Semaglutide or to any of its ingredients
